I posted this in response to another blog post but because of the age of the post I didn't know if anyone would see it. I wanted to know if anyone was of the same opinion as me so I am posting it again. Please don't misinterpret this post because I know the movie will be good. Peter Jackson is one of the greatest directors of our generation.

I'm worried! I'm always concerned when people seek to add to the brilliance which is Tolkien. I trust Peter because he is a brilliant director. However, I see no need for the addition of a major character to the best book I have ever read. I remember the frustration when Tom Bombadil and Glorfindel were omitted from the Lord of the Rings movies. I don't want that for The Hobbit. Also, I don't see why there must be a strong female character. They didn't change The Hunger Games to give a strong male character to pander to boys. I don't understand why we can't enjoy the story as written. In short I don't understand the need for Tauriel.

Frodo and the wizard Radagast are not in the book The Hobbit ether but I didn't talk about them because they are actually Tolkien characters from other books. I am also concerned about their inclusion but not as much.
