Ulfang, also known as Ulfang the Black, was the Easterling chieftain who followed Caranthir to the Nirnaeth Arnoediad (Battle of Unnumbered Tears), but betrayed the Sons of Fëanor and gave Morgoth victory.
Biography
Ulfang was one of the Swarthy Men who had come out of the east into Beleriand. He sided with Caranthir's forces at the beginning of the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. During the battle his men turned on the Sons of Fëanor. Their force, which was being attacked on three sides, was dissipated, allowing Morgoth to concentrate his forces on Fingon and Turgon. Ulfang, however, paid for his treachery with his life, as did his sons Ulfast, Ulwarth, and Uldor.[1][2][3]
