Biographical information
Physical description
- "Looks like meats back on the menu boys."
- —Uglúk
Uglúk was the leader of the Uruk-Hai that captured Merry and Pippin at Amon Hen. Uglúk was also the commander that raided the wold shortly before the fellowship left Moria. He was highly trusted by Saruman and Sauron, and also stood by Saruman's orders beheading another orc to prevent Saruman's orders being disobeyed. Uglúk was ultimately killed by Éomer in the book, but in the film, his fate is uncertain. Some believe that he was the uruk who's head was impaled on the spear after Éomer and his riders attacked his camp, strengthened by the fact that Éomer states that "[He and his warriors] left none alive." (It is possible, however, that he is wrong, as not only did Merry and Pippin, who, being Hobbits would be hard to see due to their size, but Grishnákh also escape the fight.) However, others believe that he was present in the Battle of Helm's Deep, possibly even the uruk standing on the stone who ordered the uruks to charge, due to the similarities between the two (However, as they were both played by different actors, this is improbable), also strengthened by the fact that, on posters, an uruk-hai with a large scar across it's face was labelled as being Uglúk. There was also a trailer featuring ugluk in the glittering cave at helms deep.
[edit] In Film Adaptations
In Peter Jackson's movie adaptation of The Two Towers, Uglúk is played by Nathaniel Lees. According to The Fellowship of the Ring movie, the initial leader of the Uruk-band was Lurtz, who was slain by Aragorn at Amon Hen. Uglúk took command of the troop after his death.
