The Tolkien society is an organisation based in the United Kingdom aimed to encourage and further interest in the life and works of the late Professor J.R.R. Tolkien. It is the first of this kind of societies, since it was founded in 1969.
The Tolkien Society is mainly an educational charity offering help and services to teachers and students.
The Society is also a repository for documents relating to the history of the society and various media reports and journals, all on the subject of Tolkien and his writings.
During Tolkien's lifetime, he agreed to be the president of the society, and several members of his family were involved with the society- especially Priscilla Tolkien who was its Honorary Vice President.
