The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Visual Companion (ISBN 0-618-39097-9) is "the official illustrated movie companion" for Peter Jackson's The Return of the King, written by Jude Fisher and edited by Chris Smith in 2003. It is published by HarperCollins (UK) and Houghton Mifflin (US).
The Visual Companion is a 68-page book featuring numerous shots from the film on each page, accompanied by background and story-lines for every plot and sub-plot of the movie. (It is not a guide to the making of the film, as is The Art of The Return of the King.)
- "The road to the Dimholt is ominously silent: in that haunted place nothing stirs, neither wind nor bird. At the root of the mountain gapes a dark door like the mough of night. Signs and figures are carved above its wide arch, and fear flows from it like a gray vapor. No one living who has stepped through this door has returned alive; but Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas enter with grim resolve."
