Aragorn-The Hunt for Gollum

Adrian Webster as Aragorn/Strider.

The Hunt for Gollum is an unofficial not-for-profit short film by a group of enthusiast filmmakers. As a Lord of the Rings Fan Film, it is not affiliated with the Tolkien Estate or New Line Cinema and was produced as an entirely non commercial film. The entire movie was released online for free to view on the internet on May 3, 2009; it was made for the enjoyment of the material and the experience of making a high quality low budget film.

Production began in early 2007 when writer-director Chris Bouchard started adapting the script from the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings. Filming began in North Wales in September 2007 and since then has taken place in a variety of locations around London, which is the base for the production.

Plot

The Hunt for Gollum is the story of how Gandalf the Grey and Aragorn II searched for the creature Gollum, hoping to keep the whereabouts of the One Ring of Power from Sauron, and to learn how Gollum came in possession of the Ring.

Differences Between Book and Film

The movie's plot is almost entirely original to it, as Tolkien gave few details about this incident in his writings. One deviation the movie makes, however, was that Aragorn catches Gollum in a forest, whereas the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings specify that his capture took place in the Dead Marshes. This deviation may have been made because of the difficulty of recreating the Marshes on a low budget.
