Naming convention[]

There's a question as to what to call this beast. It's been suggested that we call it an Elven elk. I suggest we call it an Emyn Duir elk. It's true that we aren't sure whether the elk did come from those mountains, but since it's non-canon that's not an issue. The point is, Northern Mirkwood is the only place it's ever been seen (in the non-canon The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), so there's no reason not to use that as a logical name. Or, in keeping with the LOTR:Current polices convention of preferably using English, we could rename the page to Elven elk. Either is preferable to Megaloceros, in my opinion. - Gradivus, 15:57, December 25, 2013 (UTC)

Come to think of it, Elven elk sounds generalized. The beast can simply be referred as Thranduil's elk since it is not canon. Other wikis do it (e.g. Sirius Black's owl or Morzan's dragon). The beast is non-canon and it would be out of place if we relate it to a canon name, that is Emyn Duir. Darkchylde (talkcontribs) 03:36, December 26, 2013 (UTC)
I agree with you about Thranduil's elk. That makes sense to me. - Gradivus, 04:28, December 26, 2013 (UTC)

I named it Noroth (which in the Sindarin elf language means “giant”) --Mpatt53 (talk) 03:55, November 11, 2015 (UTC)mpatt53
