Is "Teleporno" a real name? Maybe it's just sound odd in dutch, but it seems more like a joke to me. I hope I'm wrong. Pietpiet1 20:12, April 13, 2011 (UTC)
- "Teleporno" is a real, Quenya, name (as opposed to the Sindarin Celeborn) which roughly translated means "Silver-high".--Wyvern Rex. 07:48, April 14, 2011 (UTC)
Pronunciation
Edit
How is this name pronounced? It looks like "Sell-eh-born", but a friend told me that it is pronounced "Kell-eh-born"? Which is it, or are both wrong? RS89 (talk) 23:23, October 5, 2012 (UTC)
In The Lord of the Rings appendices, Tolkien writes that when used in a name, "C" is always pronounced like a "K," not like a "Z" or an "S". Take "Cirith Ungol" for example: According to the appendices, it should pronounced as "Kirith Ungol," but more often than not you will hear even some devout fans call it "Sirith Ungol". So, this was kind of a roundabout way of saying, it should be pronounced "Kell-eh-born," but even in Ralph Bakshi's The Lord of The Rings film, it is pronounced "Sell-eh-born." Go figure.TK 234 (talk) 16:09, December 31, 2012 (UTC)
- Never cared much for the 1978 version. A recorded (cassette tapes) LotR of around that time gave the elves high, squeaky voices, like they were Keebler elves or pixies. You're correct, Tolkien's pronunciation was similar to Latin's: C and G always hard, U as in puss. The words Celts, Celtic, etc. also always use the "K" sound (except when referring to a basketball team) - Gradivus, 17:31, December 31, 2012 (UTC)
shouldn't that be He is......, not He was..........?
