Orc or Goblin[]

I could have sworn the book said he was an Orc. - [[file: |20px]] blood:water mission, Give a dam! ΓεννημένοςΠάλιΙησούςΦρικτός 14:09, December 16, 2012 (UTC)

Tolkien indicated in his notes that the term "orc" can be used interchangeably with "goblin", the common English word for the race. In fact, "orc" appears only a couple of times in The Hobbit, and despite it's frequent use in the film adaptations, it was not the predominant term used in the LOTR novels either. Azog is both an orc and a goblin, the terms are synonymous with each other. Yoruichi's Paramour (talk) 16:53, October 15, 2013 (UTC)

Left-handed?[]

Was he orginally left-handed until Thorin cut his hand off? SwordoftheSpirit (talk) 02:13, March 29, 2013 (UTC)

Well yes beacause in the beginning at the battle of azunalballier we see him kill a few dwarvish warriors with his scimitar in his left hand Evan Nesb (talk) 22:21, March 29, 2013 (UTC)
You guys need to figure out whether you're talking about the book or the movie. Peter Jackson's storyline concerning Azog in the film The Hobbit is very different from Tolkien's. - Gradivus, 14:03, September 14, 2013 (UTC)
Gradivus is correct. Most of the plot involving Azog in the films was fabricated by the writers to extend the story. The character is only barely touched upon in the novel, and I don't recall there being any mention of his dominant hand. Illustrations of Azog over the years have been inconsistent, primarily depicting him as right-handed but, also as dual wielding (ambidextrous). For the purposes of the film, it appears that he may have been left-handed prior to it being severed, but it is never explicitly stated. Yoruichi's Paramour (talk) 16:53, October 15, 2013 (UTC)
