• Gandalf crosses the river Isen.
• Gildor Inglorion and company, returning from the Tower Hills on a pilgrimage to the Palantír there and back to Rivendell encounter Frodo, Sam, and Pippin, on a road near Woody End, and talk of the plight that the hobbits faced.
• A Black Rider is spotted near the road but it retreats due to the presence of the Elves fair singing and chanting.
• Boromir continues his journey to Rivendell.
