Rick Porras

Rick Porras c. 2001

Rick Porras (born 1969) is an American film producer, known mainly as one of the multiple film producers of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001 - 2003), with Peter Jackson, Barrie Osborne, Jamie Selkirk, and Mark Ordesky. He was also Second Unit Director for the three films.

One of the many props used for the One Ring, particularly in a scene in Bag End in The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), was Porras' wedding ring. During the shooting phase, Porras once embarrassingly served as a stand-in for Gollum, for a shoot of a scene in Ithilien, while Andy Serkis was unavailable. In the Extended Edition behind-the-scenes feature The Taming of Sméagol, Porras gives commentary on the dilemmas of how to depict and render Gollum for the screen.

Before the making of the trilogy, he had worked with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh on The Frighteners (1996), as post-production supervisor.
