Peter Jackson (Born in Pukerua Bay, Porirua City, New Zealand) is a film writer, director, and producer. He directed, produced, starred in and helped to write both the live-action films series The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and The Hobbit which are based on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit respectively, published works of J.R.R. Tolkien's. In 2012, Jackson remastered the whole film production involving a brand new digital transfer from the original source.[1]
Biography
Jackson's first public showings were "splatstick" comedies, a far cry from the movie Heavenly Creatures, for which he shared with Fran Walsh an Oscar nomination for "Best Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen".
Real fame came a little later, with his direction of the epic film trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, based on the books of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkien. The third in the trilogy earned an Oscar in all 11 categories it was nominated for.
Besides directing the trilogy, Jackson also appeared briefly in each of them. In The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), he was a drunken man in Bree named Albert Dreary. In The Two Towers (2002), he was a Rohirrim Warrior. In Return of the King (2003), he was a Corsair killed by an arrow fired by Legolas. In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), he was a Dwarf of the Lonely Mountain Dwarf running from the rampaging dragon Smaug in the synopsis-scene. He was also seen in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug briefly when Bard was escorting the Dwarves to his house. Although uncredited, he appeared in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies as Bungo Baggins in a painting that can be seen at the end of the third film in Bag End. The same painting appeared in Bag End also in The Fellowship of the Ring.
