On the Shoulders of Hobbits: The Road to Virtue with Tolkien and Lewis is a book by Louis Markos, studying the lessons taught in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and the fiction works of C.S. Lewis regarding virtue. It was published in 2012 by Moody Publishers, of Moody Bible Institute.
Markos primarily uses Tolkien's hobbits as a reference point for the virtues and struggles examined.
- "Louis Markos has written a helpful guide to the moral and spiritual realities embodied in J.R.R. Tolkien's hobbit tales and C. S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia. Here he probes the darkness of evil, the perils of pilgrimage, the terror and gift of death, as well as the summons to shape our lives according to discernment, justice, courage, temperance, hope, faith, and love."
