The Nether Darkness was the area in the far southern part of Arda not lit by the Sun or the Moon.
History
The Nether Darkness existed during the early days of Arda; the First Age and the Second Age. It could be reached by sea and the Númenóreans during the early days of their great sea power sailed into this mysterious area.[1] It is not known what the Nether Darkness truly was but if it was a land, it was thought to be a waste uninhabited by any living thing.[2] Its existence after the Change of the World is not known.
