• The Battle of the Pelennor Fields begins. Orc forces numbering over 200,000 marched on the gates of Minas Tirith. While they attacked the city using catapults, the Nazgûl and their fell beasts, under the command of The Witch-king of Angmar flied over the city and killed many Gondor soldiers trying to defend Minas Tirith. Before dawn on the 15th, the great battering-ram Grond was used to break the city's main gate. On dawn, the cock crowed and the horns of Rohan were heard as around 6,000 of their riders joined the battle and slain many orcs. Just after legions from Haradrim arrived and the Rohan army was almost massacred.
• Frodo Baggins is attacked by Shelob and led by orcs under the command of Gorbag to the Tower of Cirith Ungol.
