The courtyard at the main gate of Minas Tirith was located on the first level, just behind the main gate. Although it is not described in the books, the films portray it as large, with a statue of a man riding a horse to war in the center of it.

Siege of Minas TirithEdit

During the Siege of Minas Tirith, Gandalf assembled a large group of Gondorians to defend the First Level as the gate came crashing down. In the book, the Witch King rode into the courtyard and all there except Gandalf fled, while in the movie three trolls and a large number of orcs fight with the Gondorians before driving them to the Second Level.

AfterwardsEdit

After the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, Aragorn refuses to enter the city until the Ring has been destroyed and he crowned king.
