Ioreth was the wife of Talion and mother of Dirhael, and a woman of Gondor in the late Third Age.
Ioreth is non-canonical as she does not appear in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and only in the game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and in flashbacks for its sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
Biography[]
Ioreth was born in Minas Tirith to the nobleman Hallas and his unnamed wife. By the time Ioreth was a young woman, she had fallen in love with and married Talion, much to her father's chagrin. At some point shortly thereafter, Ioreth was attacked by the nobleman Asgon, who was killed by Talion in the act of defending his wife. Because Ioreth revealed to her father she was carrying Talion's unborn child, Hallas agreed to assign Talion to a post at the Black Gate to save him from imprisonment for the crime.
Their child, Dirhael, was born after their arrival at the Gate, where Talion raised him in the art of war, leading him to also become a Ranger. Ioreth often expressed to her husband her desire to find a way of returning to Minas Tirith, though this proved unfruitful.

Eventually, the Black Gate was attacked by Uruks under the command of Sauron, which became the beginning of the reconquest of Mordor. Though Talion and the men under his command fought valiantly, they were overrun. Talion, along with Ioreth and Dirhael, were taken to a separate place by the Tower of Sauron, and thereafter slain in a dark ritual peformed by the Black Hand. Despite her death, Talion was reanimated by the spirit of the elf-lord Celebrimbor, which enabled the Ranger to later take vengeance for his wife and son.
