Real-world
Letter 86
Date October 23 1944
Recipient Christopher Tolkien
Important Notes

Letter 86 is the eighty-sixth letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

SummaryEdit

Tolkien told Christopher that he was exhausted and tired, and afterward examined the theme "impiety". He wouldn't fret sacrilege against God, and refers to Luke 23:34. The Lord would not be tormented by phonetic disrespect (reviling), regardless of how "wearisome, disheartening and goading" it was. Far more regrettable would the Lord be tormented by the offenses people submit against each other.
