Letter 4 is the fourth letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Tolkien was bored with the aged military lecture-notes and he indicated that he had been working on his "nonsense fairy language in a blue drizzling afternoon. He also told Edith Bratt that he wanted to work on it for a long time but he held himself back since he thought this is "such a mad hobby".
