Letter 134 is the One-hundred thirty fourth letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien.

Summary[]

On July 1, 1952, Rayner Unwin sent a letter to J.R.R Tolkien asking if Tolkien could send a copy of the typescript of The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien wanted to publish The Lord Of The Rings as fast as he could because he did believe that his work just short of flawless, but Tolkien had "more or less one fair copy." When he said, "I am retiring tomorrow from the noise and stench of Holywell to my son's cottage on Chiltern-top while he is away with his children. I shall return on September 10th." Yet Tolkien ended that part of the letter with inviting Rayner Unwin to call him.

Tolkien picks back up with that he has recently made some tape-recordings of the Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. These were focused more on Gollum-passages and some 'Elvish'.

Tolkien then ends the reply with saying that he would love to visit London someday and visit Rayner Unwin and his wife. But yet at this time he is very booked up with finishing books and lectures.[1]
