[edit] What should be copied or moved
- Everything.
A good place to start may be the Vfd .
See what articles have been flagged for moving from Wikipedia to here.
Also check Wikipedia:Category:Middle-earth books for various things that can be added from them to here as an article; however, chances are some of it already is here.
[edit] How to move or copy an article
Our technical people are working on a process similar to Transwiki, but that is not ready yet.
- Go into edit mode on the Wikipedia article, copy the source code of the article (including all the templates (most of which work here) and categories (most of which are also categories here), and paste into the LOTR-Wiki.
- Add the acknowledgment template as below.
(As soon as our LOTR-wiki article has been saved, add a link to it in the "See also" section of the Wikipedia article.)
[edit] Add the template notice
Before the first save, for a simple permanent acknowledgment and reference, add the template {{EnWP|Page Name}} (where Page Name is the title of the English Wikipedia article). Click "Show preview" to see how it all looks. The template should have produced something like this:
[edit] Further improvements
- Edit the LOTR article, making it the best article possible. Edit Wikipedia links (e.g. Wikipedia:Article_name) when appropriate, so that they direct to the Wikipedia article if we don't have one of the same name and don't expect we ever will. Click Save page .
- Copy and paste the the list of authors from the history page of the Wikipedian article to the talk page of the new one so contributors are properly credited.
- Edit any fancruft, moving it to the Discussion page (where fan opinion is encouraged).
[edit] Merging articles from Wikipedia with our articles
Sometimes, people start an article here when an article already exists on Wikipedia. This is how to merge:
- Compare the articles.
- Copy (from the Edit box) the sections from WikiPedia our articles lack.
- Paste the sections from the WikiPedia articles into our articles lacking those sections.
- Add the template, and do other improvements, as above.
