Karen Wynn Fonstad (born 18 April, 1945 - died 11 March 2005) was an American author and cartographer. She was the author of The Atlas of Middle-earth.

In addition to The Atlas of Middle-earth, she wrote several atlases to other fictional universes. She received a degree in cartography from the University of Oklahoma. She died of breast cancer.
