The Horn-cry of Buckland, also called the Horn-call of Buckland, was used by the Shire-hobbits in times of danger. The words were recorded as "Awake! Fear! Fire! Foes! Awake!"
History[]
Prior to the War of the Ring, it was last used in the Fell Winter when white wolves invaded the Shire. It was used again when Black Riders attacked Crickhollow; Fredegar Bolger escaped the house before they arrived and when he reached the nearest house and the neighbors understood that enemies were present, they sounded the Horn-cry.[1] Meriadoc Brandybuck also blew the Horn-cry, using the Horn of Rohan, when he roused the hobbits of Bywater.[2]
