[edit] The book

In the book, Háma is the doorward of Théoden. He greets Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli when they arrive to speak with Théoden. He tells the company to leave their weapons behind, by order of Gríma Wormtongue, before entering the King's hall. He allows Gandalf to keep his staff, even though he sees through his lie of it being a mere walking stick, because of his hate towards Gríma Wormtongue. Háma was present at the Battle of the Hornburg, and died defending the gates of Helm's Deep. He was buried at Helm's Deep after the battle.

[edit] On radio

Michael Spice provided the voice for Háma in The Lord of the Rings (1981 radio series).

[edit] The film

In the film, Háma is still the doorward of Théoden. He allows Gandalf to pass with his staff as well. He is killed when a Warg attacks and devours his head on the way to Helm's Deep. His body is left behind. His only known family is his son, Haleth, who is made to fight at Helm's Deep. Háma is played by New Zealand actor John Leigh.
