Guard of the Citadel

From the One Wiki to Rule Them All, the Lord of the Rings Encyclopedia.

The Guard of the Citadel are elite soldiers that guard the upper level of Minas Tirith. They were also used as body guards of the ruling Stewards of Gondor, and later, Kings of Gondor. The Guard of the Citadel is lead by the captain, which is chosen from nobility or high ranking officer by the Steward. They are mainly a guard force rather than being a mobile force, but may have been at times used as a mobile guard for the Stewards.

[edit] Equipment

The Guard of the Citadel is an elite group within the Gondor army, and their equipment is clearly evident of this. Citadel guards are armed and armoured similarly to the regular spearmen of Gondor, but bear finer crafted armour and a lacking of pauldrons, increasing striking manoeverability. They, like the Fountain Guards, are mainly a spear-type unit, each unit carrying a spear, sword and shield. The helmet of a citadel guard is similar to a foot soldier helmet, but includes a bronze cheek guard and decorations.
