The Grubb family was an important and wealthy family of Hobbits in the Shire distantly related to the Bagginses. It is known that the family business was involving auctioneering, a fact we can deduce from the name of the company set to sell the contents of Bag End: Grubb and Burrowes. Bilbo Baggins did in fact have a slight connection with the family. His paternal grandmother, Laura Grubb, was married to Mungo Baggins, and together they produced five children; of whom the eldest was Bungo Baggins - Bilbo's father.
Notable Grubbs: Lavender Grubb, Laura Grubb.
The name is meant to recall the english verb grub - to dig, root, in the ground.
