The Great Floods were the result of the Fell Winter that occurred during the years of TA 2911 and TA 2912.

With the arrival of spring 2912, the heavy snow and ice accumulation during the winter began to thaw considerably creating floods, with melt waters running down through Eriador devastating the lands of Enedwaith and Minhiriath. The ancient city of Tharbad was completely ruined and soon became deserted. Flooding probably effected other lands to the south as well.
