Gostir, or Gorsthir, was the name of one of the dragons of Morgoth about whom almost nothing is known.[1]
Biography[]
Gostir was a dragon only known to possess a dragon-name[1] which evolved from Gorsthir, an older form of the name.[2]
Etymology[]
Gostir is a Ñoldorin name meaning "dread-glace"[2] or "dread glance", being derived from the elements gost ("dread, terror")[1] and thîr ("look, face, expression, countenance"),[2] as well as the root thē ("look (see or seem)").[2]
In adaptations[]
Middle-earth Role Playing[]
Gostir appears as a white Cold-drake with red eyes who dwells north of Rhûn in Barl Syrnac in the Creatures of Middle-earth supplement of Middle-earth Role Playing. Gostir was said to be the older brother of Lhamthanc.
