Gorgol, also called the Butcher, was an Orc captain in Sauron's service who lived in Beleriand during the First Age.

Biography[]

Gorgol's service to Morgoth and his vassal, Sauron, had earned him the moniker of "the Butcher". After Gorlim's betrayal, Gorgol was sent as captain of Sauron's warband to slaughter Barahir and his companions near Tarn Aeluin. After "butchering" the outlaws, he claimed the famous Ring of Barahir.

The greedy Gorgol, holding the hand of Barahir aloft, said that he was minded to keep the Ring and declare to Sauron that the hand of Barahir was bare. But at that moment Beren, son of Barahir, sprang into the camp, slew Gorgol, and seized the hand, making his escape.[citation needed]
