Gimli's battle axe was the weapon that he used throughout the series.
It is not seen with him before the Fellowship entered the Mines of Moria so it is most likely that he picked it up in The Chamber of Mazarbul.
Portrayal in adaptationsEdit
The Lord of the Rings film trilogyEdit
In Peter Jackson's film adaptions of the Lord of the Rings series, Gimli has many axes he uses in battle but his favorite by far is the double-bladed Battle Axe. He uses it in nearly every fight, including the Fight in Balin's Tomb, the Skirmish at Amon Hen, and the Battle of Helms Deep. He is never seen using it in the Return of the King as it remains pinned to the back of his cloak.
It has a long, wooden shaft attached to two thick double-blades.
