Axes

Gimli with his many axes (walking axe on right)

Gimli's "walking axe" was the longest weapon used by the dwarf Gimli (and by his father, Glóin, before him) in most adaptations of The Lord of the Rings.

Portrayal in adaptationsEdit

Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogyEdit

Next to his battle axe, the weapon Gimli used most in these films is his walking axe, which he used against the Warg Riders in defense of the Rohirrim villagers. It was a long wooden handle with a single axe-blade at the top. The straight metal shaft on the blade let Gimli grasp it and use it as a walking staff.

Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy Edit

In The Hobbit films, the axe is shown to have first been Glóin's axe, and is carried by him throughout the Quest of Erebor.
