The Gates of Sirion were rocky arches at the feet of the southern side of the hills of Andram. This was where the River Sirion appeared out from under the ground on its way south. It continued this course for more than a hundred miles until it reached the Mouths of Sirion and the Sundering Seas. Sirion began its underground flow at the Falls of Sirion, just southwards of Aelin-uial or the Twilight Meres. This was about 25 leagues east of Nargothrond. It then traveled three leagues in great tunnels beneath Andram until it emerged from these caverns at the Gates in an immense torrent of water.[1]
