The Free and Corrupted Races of Middle-earth of the Third Age includes:
- Men: Mainly the Men of the West/North i.e. of Númenórean/Rohirrim/Wilderland heritage,
- Elves: The first born.
- Dwarves: However some became corrupted during the later years of the Second Age/The Last Alliance War
- Hobbits: Although sometimes considered part of the race of Men.
- Ents: Treesherders usually found in Fangorn forest.
- Eagles: Originally meant to be heralds of Manwë but common by the Third Age.
- Beorning: Though they take the forms of Men in peace they are considered different due to their Bear forms.
The free peoples of Middle-earth fight for Middle-earth and for good, believing that good is worth fighting for. They believe in the power and good of the Ainu and Eru Ilúvatar and have not been corrupted by Morgoth and his servant Sauron unlike these races:
- Easterlings: A race of Men that are under Sauron's dominion and possibly akin to the Balchoth and the Swarthy Men, made up of many tribes like the Wainriders and more.
- Haradrim: A race of Men, similar to the Easterlings and possibly the Variags of Khand.
- Variags: A race of Men from the land of Khand, possibly related to the Haradrim and Easterlings.
- Black Númenóreans: Men of Númenórean heritage who are descended from the corrupted King's Men group.
- Orcs: Corrupted copies of Elves, made first by Morgoth as a labour force but was used by Sauron as cannon fodder infantry.
- Uruk-hai: A stronger race of orcs, larger and more akin to Men and Elves that regular orcs.
- Goblins: Goblins are similar if not orcs themselves.
- Trolls: Made in imitation of Ents by Morgoth, there are two types, the Olog-hai, immune to sunlight and other traits and the normal Trolls, prone to being turned to stone by sunlight and weaker.
The free peoples of Middle-earth are often outnumbered by their enemies, but they are usually the side that does the right thing. They bring hope to Middle-earth and all the other lands of Arda.
