Hey, so I'm new here... I am a writer and most recelty have been diligently researching the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, more specifically, mythology influences realted to physical places and preservation.
As a travel writer I have been building a resource of all places related to legend, myth and lore.
Just the other day I interviewed Dr. Terry Gunnell, professor of folkloristics at the University of Iceland on my quest to map Middle Earth on Earth. I know that sounds far fetched however, I am basing these on places related to the influential mythology not the actual literal places.
My most recent discovery, among many that I won't disclose in this post, but will share with you as I publish, is that of the Dwarves of Simonside Hills in Northcumbria, UK. You can read the article here.
In relation to the foundation of all of Tolkien's works being the Volsunga Saga, the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda, do you know of any places that can be explored on earth that preserve these works of Norse Mythology?
