Hey everyone.

So the section on the First Age says it starts with the creation of the sun. However, I've seen many people on different sites saying it actually starts much earlier than this, possibly at the start of the Years of the Trees or at the birth of the Elves. What are the sources for it begining at the creation of the sun/the birth of men?

Thank you for pointing that out. In the chapter of the creation of Men and of the Sun in The Silmarillion, it isn't stated. I believe it isn't stated in any book when the First Age actually began. What did begin when the Sun and Moon were made, however, was the Elves' count of years. (As mentioned in Appendix D of Lord of the Rings)
