I am re-reading LOTR for probably the 20th time, but I'm finally noticing something I don't understand. There is a section before Sam rescues Frodo from the tower where the text says that south is to Sam's left. How can that be if he is travelling east, into Mordor? Wouldn't south be on his right? What am I missing?
° I'm new on here, so I'm probably doing this wrong. Anyway, if you haven't read The Silmarillion, I strongly recommend reading it before rereading TLOTR. I read The Silmarillion AFTER I read The Hobbit and TLOTR. Now, I'm definitely going to reread them. I strongly recommend that anyone who's NEVER read The Hobbit And TLOTR read The Silmarillion first.
On yes, about the directions, there are all kinds of things about directions in these books I've yet to figure out. That's one of the many reasons I need to reread them.
