A Flail was used by Dori during the Quest for Erebor. Later, during the Battle of Five Armies, Azog wielded a giant Flail in his final battle with Thorin.

A large Flail was also used by the Witch-king of Angmar during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in March 15, 3019.
