Madril was a Ranger of Ithilien under the command Faramir, at Henneth Annûn and at Osgiliath.

In adaptations[]

Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy[]

Madril was both an adviser and a second-in-command to Faramir. He was with Faramir when Sam and Frodo were captured by his men. When Faramir decided to let them go, Madril reminded him that if he failed to deliver the Ring to Gondor he risked losing his life.[1] He accompanies Faramir during the Battle of Osgiliath. He commands a group of archers during the battle but he suffers a head wound. As Faramir calls for a retreat, Madril is cut down by an Orc of Minas Morgul, being severely wounded during the battle, and was thought by Faramir to be dead when the Men of Gondor retreat at the arrival of the Nazgûl. He is then seen lying defenseless on the ground, before being killed by Gothmog with a spear.
