Shaknar was an Orc chief from the Misty Mountains in the service of Sauron.
He is non-canonical, a character made specifically for the 2009 fan-film Born of Hope.
Biography[]
While still concealed at Dol Guldur in Mirkwood, Sauron charged Shaknar with destroying the bloodline of Isildur. Per this order, Orcs of the Misty Mountains began attacking the settlements of the Dúnedain and seeking the Ring of Barahir, heirloom of Isildur's house.
In one of the Misty Mountains' caverns, Shaknar met with his lieutenants who had returned from the search for the Ring of Barahir. Seeing as none of the rings they brought were the one his master was seeking, he got frustrated at their incompetence as well as their fear of the "ghost-men". Angered by one lieutenant questioning his methods, Shaknar ruthlessly stabbed him to death. He then left, threatening the others that he was going to report their failure to the Dark Lord. Unbeknownst to Shaknar, he had just been overheard by Isildur's heir, Arathorn, who slew Shaknar's two lieutenants.
Later, Shaknar personally led a horde of Northern Orcs in an attack against Taurdal, the village of the Dúnedain. Pointing his champion, Gorganog, towards Arathorn, he stood back as the skirmish unfurled. With defeat inevitable, Shaknar retreated alongside the remainder of the warband. Arathorn pursued them, but Shaknar shot two arrows in Arathorn's body from the shadows and the Dúnadan chieftain fell to the ground. As he prepared to kill his victim, the Orc taunted him that the line of Kings neared its end. But Arathorn replied by saying that Shaknar was wrong and stabbed him in the chest. Screeching in pain, Shaknar used what he had left of his force to stab Arathorn's eye with an arrow, before succumbing to his wounds and dying.[1]
