The One Wiki to Rule Them All

Duinhir was the leader of Men from the uplands of Morthond, the Blackroot Vale, in Gondor.

Biography[]

During the War of the Ring, he came to the aid of Minas Tirith with his two sons, Duilin and Derufin, and five hundred bowmen, and fought in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.[1] Duinhir was notably tall, and had been seen by Bergil and Pippin entering the White City initially with his men.

Because of the threat of the Corsairs of Umbar, most of Duinhir's men remained in the south to guard the coasts during the battle. Duinhir's sons perished in the fight, but his own fate is not told.[2]

In The Lord of the Rings Online, Duinhir is the Lord of the Blackroot Vale, and the town of Morlad is his seat. When leaving to defend the White City with his son, he leaves his wife Rosfin and his steward Malthellam in charge. Before the Siege of Minas Tirith begins, Duilin and Derufin sneak out with the Rangers of Ithilien across the Anduin, hoping the hunt a legendary Mûmak. Upon returning, they are scolded by their father, but Duinhir relents when the boys teach him and the other soldiers how to shoot the Mûmakil in the eyes.

Duinhir is heartbroken when both his sons die in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, but nevertheless joins the march of the Host of the West towards the Black Gate. As the Host enters Dagorlad, Duinhir's grief resurges, and he becomes one of the faint-hearted, those who leave the main host with Aragorn's permission, to return home. Duinhir leads these faint-hearted back southward, and on the way they liberate Cair Andros from a remnant of the forces of Mordor.
