Anderson before 2013
Douglas Allen Anderson (b. 1959) is an editor and author who specializes in Medieval and fantasy literature.
He wrote The Annotated Hobbit in 1988, to outline the specific changes and revisions that J.R.R. Tolkien made to both the The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings before his death. His book won an award from the Mythopoeic Society. He published a revised edition of his book in 2002.
He authored J.R.R. Tolkien: A Descriptive Bibliography (1993) with Wayne G. Hammond, a book compiling all of Tolkien's published letters and books, his art, and all of his literary contributions. He did the same concerning Christopher Tolkien in the appendix to Tolkien's Legendarium: Essays on The History of Middle-earth (2000). With Marjorie Burns, Anderson also compiled On Tolkien: Interviews, Reminiscences, and Other Essays (2007).
In 2004, Anderson founded the yearly academic journal Tolkien Studies with scholars Verlyn Flieger and Michael D. C. Drout. He assisted also in the formation of Drout's J.R.R. Tolkien Encyclopedia, published in 2006. At the online, partially Tolkien-focused school Signum University, founded by Corey Olsen, Anderson has spoken as a Guest and Visiting Lecturer.[1]
Anderson has edited the works of other fantasy authors such as Leonard Cline, Kenneth Morris, and William Hope Hodgson. He currently is co-editor of Tolkien Studies.
