The Front Court was located on the first level of Minas Tirith, just behind the Great Gate of the city.

History

Presumably, the court was a part of Minas Anor either from the time of Anárion or the city's rebuilding by Ostoher in the year TA 420. In the year TA 3019, Gandalf and Peregrin Took passed through the court on their way to meet with Denethor II. Gandalf would later pass again through the court to the Great Gate, where he encountered the Witch-king of Angmar as Grond breached the city's defenses.

Model of the courtyard

During theSiege of Minas Tirith, Gandalf assembles a large group of Gondorians to defend the first level as the gate is broken by Grond. Three trolls and a large number of orcs fight with the Gondorians before driving them to the second level.
