Eldarion (Quenya: "Scion of the Eldar") was the only son and heir of Aragorn II, King of the Reunited Kingdom, and his wife, Queen Arwen Undómiel.
Biography[]
Eldarion was born in the first year of the Fourth Age. and became second King of the Reunited Kingdom after the death of his father in FO 120. He was considered a third generation Half-elf, having a slow maturity and long youth like true Elves, while not inheriting the choice of becoming immortal. It was said that he had an appearance of 20 years old until he was 60. At the time of his ascension to the throne, Eldarion was "full ripe and ready for kingship". It is known that Eldarion was given the tokens of kingship, the Crown of Gondor, etc.) by his father, who died soon after the crowning of his son. He was also recorded to have several sisters.

During Eldarion's reign, Findegil served as the royal scribe (or King's Writer). In FO 171, Findegil wrote The Thain's Book for the Thain of the Shire. This copy was the only one to include Bilbo Baggins' complete Translations from the Elvish, which Bilbo had composed while at Rivendell during his 'retirement' there.
It was foretold that he should rule a great realm, and that it should endure for at least a hundred generations of Men after him, that is until a new age brought in again new things; from him should come the kings of many realms in long days after.
Sometime around the year 220 of the Fourth Age, the reign of Eldarion himself would end. It is untold if he died or if some other fate befell him.
Etymology[]
His name is Quenya. Paul Strack explains it means "Son of the Eldar", being a compound of Eldar and patronymic -ion. In Letter 338, J.R.R. Tolkien spelled this name Eldaron, this is probably a typographic error.
Lineage[]
Eldarion was descended from several royal Elven houses, including the Three High Kings of the Elves, and from the chieftains of the Edain. He was a grandson of Elrond and, through his grandmother Celebrían, a great-grandson of Galadriel. He was the great-grandson of Eärendil the Mariner on both sides of his family and in him the two genealogical lines of the Half-elves were reunited), through his Half-elven mother Arwen; he was also the nephew of the Half-elf lords Elladan and Elrohir. He was descended also from the great Kings of Númenor on his father's side. Tolkien mentioned the existence of descendants, about whom little is known save that their lifespans eventually dwindled to a little above normal human length.

In The Return of the King film (2003), he is portrayed by Sadwyn Brophy, son of Jed Brophy, who portrayed Sharku and Snaga in The Two Towers film and Nori in The Hobbit films.
