The original parts of the the Shire were subdivided into four Farthings ("fourth-ings" or "quarterings"): the Three Farthing Stone marked the point where the borders of the Eastfarthing, Westfarthing and Southfarthing of the Shire came together, by the East-West Road. The Shire-hobbits each referred to their respective farthing as the Country Round. For instance, Bilbo Baggins had a map of the Westfarthing which he called as such.[1]
