Elfwine was the son of Éomer and the nineteenth King of Rohan.
Biography
Elfwine was the first son of King Éomer and Lothíriel, the daughter of Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth). As Elfwine ruled in the Fourth Age after the Red Book of Westmarch had been written, not much is known about him or his deeds as a noble of Rohan, but it can be speculated that he kept the ancient Oath of Eorl maintaining the alliance of Rohan and Gondor, his was a rule of peace in which the Rohirrim recovered from the War of the Ring. He became king in the year FO 63, because of his father's death (his mother died 10 years later in FO 73), and ruled long after.[1]
He was said to have a striking resemblance to his maternal grandfather, Imrahil, the well-known Prince of Dol Amroth.[2]
It is not known whether he married and had children or who succeeded him.
Etymology
The name Elfwine is Old English that means "Elf-friend". His name is similar to Tolkien's Ælfwine of England.[3]
