There is one fortress in it, the Eastern Guard, which overlooks the open passage into Mordor that Variags and Easterlings would have used, maybe even after the fall of Mordor and Sauron in the Third Age.
- It appears on a rare map of Mordor made for the purpose of cinematic lore, as do some other unexplained places. That map appears in the Return of the King Visual Companion, before the table of Contents, and appears in The Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare.
