Eagles Eyrie
Talk0this wiki
Eagles Eyrie was the principle home of the great Eagles in the Third Age or at the very least its latter half.
It was located at a high point on the eastside of the Misty Mountains facing Rhovanion between the Rushdown and the Old Forest Road.
It was approximately thirty-five miles from the Carrock near Beorn's house.
Its lord was Gwaihir the Windlord.

Significance in The Hobbit
Edit
Thorin and Company were rescued by Lord of the Eagles on 19 July, 2941, and taken to their eyrie where they spent the night.
Significance in the Lord of the Rings
Edit
By the time of the War of the Ring, the Eagles Eyrie in the Misty Mountains was presumably still the home of the great eagles. Gwaihir probably flew from here on his way to the Pinnacle of Orthanc where Gandalf was held captive. It was probably from here that they flew to the aid of Gondor in the Battle of the Morannon, and then to rescue Frodo and Sam from the devastation of Mount Doom.
