Durin's Tower David Greset

Durin's Tower, by David Greset

Durin's Tower was a tower upon the peak of Zirakzigil, south of the Redhorn Pass, above the Dwarven realm of Khazad-dûm which Durin the Deathless once ruled. It was here that Gandalf defeated the Balrog known as "Durin's Bane".[1]

It was carved by the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm out of the rock of the mountain, and could only be reached by the Endless Stair beginning in the deep far below the mines.[1][2]

In Gandalf and the Balrog's Battle of the Peak in TA 3019, after the Fellowship of the Ring's journey through Moria, the tower was destroyed, and the stair was blocked with rubble.[1]
