Dumbledors were a kind of winged insect.

History[]

The Dumbledor are only mentioned in the Hobbit poem, Errantry in The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, which describes them as ferocious winged insects. Their origin and history have been lost to Men.

They are stated as being nasty insects that live in bogs and marshlands around the Shire. They are somewhat similar to Neekerbreekers, also mentioned in Hobbit-lore, and are friends with the moths. The dumbledors also hate water.

Behind the Scenes[]

The name of this race probably comes from the 18th century old English word for bumblebee, the very same word the character Albus Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series took his last name from.
