Déorwine was a Man of Rohan of the late Third Age.

Biography[]

Déorwine was the Chief of the King's Riders during the War of the Ring. He was slain along with six of his knights at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in Gondor. He was buried in the Mounds of Mundburg and memorialized in the Song of the Mounds of Mundburg.[1]

Etymology[]

The name Déorwine is probably Old English for "brave friend", from dēor ("brave, bold") + wine ("friend").[citation needed]

Portrayal in adaptations[]

The Lord of the Rings Online[]

In The Lord of the Rings Online, Déorwine is a member of Théoden's royal guard and is fist found in Edoras and later in Helm's Deep. He is the husband of Winsig, Thane of the village of Walstow that lies on the East Wall of Rohan. The player next meets him in the Drúadan Forest on their way to Minas Tirith. During the Battle of the Pelennor Fields he dies protecting King Théoden from foes.
